The Valley Hospital is proud to have been recognized with an “A” grade for patient safety for the 22nd time, following the release of The Leapfrog Group‘s Spring 2024 Hospital Safety Grade. This national distinction celebrates Valley’s achievements in protecting hospital patients from preventable harm and errors.

“We are proud to have once again received an ‘A’ for patient safety,” said Audrey Meyers, Chief Executive Officer of Valley Health System. “This top grade is a result of Valley’s longstanding commitment to ensuring patient safety and providing high-quality care. It is a great privilege knowing that all those who come through the doors of The Valley Hospital, now located in Paramus, New Jersey, will continue to be well served by Valley’s compassionate staff, who will provide patient safety and high-quality care for generations to come.”

Valley was one of the 30 hospitals in New Jersey, and part of the 29% of hospitals graded nationwide, to receive an “A” grade, ranking it among the safest hospitals in the United States. In addition, Valley is one of 11 hospitals in New Jersey to have received consecutive ‘A’ grades since Fall 2021.

The Hospital Safety Grade assigns letter grades – A, B, C, D, or F – to hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents, and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent patient harm.

According to The Leapfrog Group, the Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program exclusively based on hospital prevention of medical errors, infections, and injuries that result in the mortality of more than 500 patients a day nationally. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually in the fall and spring.

“Everyone who works at The Valley Hospital should be proud of this ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It takes complete dedication at every level, and an ironclad commitment to putting patients first. I thank Valley, its leadership, clinicians, staff, and volunteers for caring so deeply for its patients and their safety.”
